About the Digital Film Festival
Internet2 presented a distributed Digital Film Festival
in conjunction with the Internet2
Fall 2002 Member Meeting in Los Angeles. This event highlighted
short documentary works by students on Internet2 member campuses
and demonstrated the ability to deliver digital film and interactive
critiques from experts in the film industry over Internet2 high-performance
networks.
Students from Internet2 member universities around the country submitted their films to the Digital Film Festival. A panel of judges, all award-winning filmmakers, selected two winning films from eleven finalists. The eleven films are available for viewing at bandwidths ranging from dial-up modem to broadcast quality through the use of the ResearchChannel's DigitalWell Video-On-Demand library. VideoCharger version 8.1 is required for viewing the MPEG-2 version and can be downloaded from the ResearchChannel's Technical Reference Guide. During the Digital Film Festival event, which was netcast, judges announced the winners and critiqued the films with the student filmmakers who participated in the discussion through videoconferencing over Internet2.
